a. Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

When you sign in, we collect your email address from your Google account. This is used as a unique identifier for your account.

b. Authentication Information

We use Google Sign-In for authentication. The extension handles secure OAuth2 authentication tokens provided by Google to verify your identity and connect to our backend services. We do not collect or store your password.

c. Financial and Payment Information

For users who upgrade to a "Pro" plan, we receive transaction confirmations and subscription status updates from our payment processor, Stripe. We do not collect, process, or store sensitive payment information like credit card numbers. All payment processing is handled securely by Stripe.

d. Personal Communications (Audio Data)

The core function of HandsFree Type is to transcribe your voice. When you activate the extension by pressing the designated shortcut, we capture audio from your microphone. This audio data is a form of personal communication.

e. Location Information (IP Address)

As with most internet services, when the extension communicates with our servers, we receive your IP address. We do not use this to track your specific geographic location.

f. Website Content (Cursor Position)

To correctly insert your transcribed text, the extension needs to identify the currently active input field on a webpage and determine the cursor's position.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used exclusively to provide and improve the HandsFree Type service:

• To Provide Core Functionality: Your audio data is sent to our backend to be transcribed into text, which is then inserted into the webpage you are using.
• For Account Management: Your email address and authentication tokens are used to manage your account, track your transcription usage against your plan's limits, and handle subscriptions.
• For Security and Operations: Your IP address is used for security purposes, such as preventing abuse and ensuring the stability of our services.
• To Process Payments: We use subscription status information from Stripe to grant access to "Pro" plan features.

3. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services

We do not sell your personal data. We only share data with trusted third-party services that are essential for our extension to function:

• Google/Firebase: We use Firebase Authentication for user sign-in and Cloud Functions for our backend infrastructure.
• OpenAI: We send the audio you record to OpenAI's API for the sole purpose of transcription. According to OpenAI's policies, they do not use API data to train their models.
• Stripe: We use Stripe for secure payment and subscription management. Your payment details are sent directly to Stripe and never touch our servers.

4. Data Retention and Security

We are committed to keeping your data secure.

• Audio Data: Audio data is processed in-memory and is not stored on our servers after the transcription is complete and sent back to you.
• Account Data: Your account information (email, subscription status, usage statistics) is stored securely in our Firebase database as long as your account is active.
• Security Measures: We use industry-standard security measures, including HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between the extension and our servers.

5. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to access and control your data. You can sign out of the extension at any time via the popup menu. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us at the email address below.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
